Heat and Humidity Relief - 06/06/13
Hottest Day of the Year So Far!
Today's high made it to 97 degrees with a heat index of 99! We tied the hottest this year. It was the hottest since 99 on September 12th. A cold front is bringing a cooler, less humid change...enjoy!
Low Rain Chances
The cold front dropping through Central Texas may come through mainly dry for most of the area. I'll hold on to less than a 20% chance of a shower through Friday morning. Rain totals, if any at all, will probably be measured in hundredths of an inch.
Break from the Heat and Humidity
The cold front will bring us weather that's not as hot and not as humid for Friday into Saturday morning. Dewpoints have been sticky and uncomfortable the last couple days in the mid to upper 60s. They'll fall into the upper 50s to low 60s making it feel much more comfortable. Temperatures have reached 90 or higher for 8 straight days now. Some areas may break the 90-degree streak Friday with highs in the upper 80s. I'm holding on to a high of 90 officially for Austin Mabry though. The most pleasant and comfortable time in the next week will be Saturday morning when we wake up to lows in the mid 60s!
Drought Monitor is Out
We continue to see very slow improvement in the drought conditions across Central Texas. Officially at Camp Mabry, we've only had 0.03" of rain this month, but some outlying areas have had much more. The Austin area continues in a Moderate Drought while parts of Williamson County remain in a Severe Drought.

After making landfall along Florida's Big Bend region, Andrea will cross over to the Atlantic in the next couple days bringing a swath of heavy rain through the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.
