How Many Triple Digit Summer Days Will We See? - 04/27/13

Let the air conditioners begin!

We all know what Texas heat is like.  Even if you're not from Texas, you know what Texas heat is like. Triple digit temperatures are right around the corner but so far this spring, we have yet to see the mercury hit the century mark. 

Many of you remember the summer of 2011 when we broke a record for the most 100+ degree days in a year. That number was 90. That shatters the previous record set in 1925 when we had 69 days of 100+ degree heat.  Last year we received 35 days over the triple digit mark and our average is about 18.

My question to you is, how many do you think well see this year? If I were to base my judgment on the latest weather patterns, Id have to say wed be close to that 18 day average. There's been a lot of cloud cover lately and that usually helps keep the temperatures down.  Most of that will change once the polar jet stream retreats back northward and the storm pattern goes with it. High pressure will likely build in and stick around this summer, but if we can keep it on a fluctuating pattern, we should be able to limit the amount of 100+degree days.
