Updated: Thursday, March 1 2012, 03:57 AM CST
Written by Slawomir Mrozek during the Soviet takeover of Poland in 1968, the play combines elements of farce, absurdist theatre, slapstick comedy and political discourse.

Austin Community College Drama Department will stage the comedy play Tango, opening this weekend on the Rio Grande campus.  Performances will run March 2 – 11 at the ACC Gallery Theatre.

Directed by ACC Drama faculty member Marla Dean, the play was written by Slawomir Mrozek during the Soviet takeover of Poland in 1968.  Tango combines elements of farce, absurdist theatre, slapstick comedy and political discourse to tell the story of Arthur, a young man who wants to bring order to his free-spirited bohemian family.

Performances will run Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.  Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students.

The ACC Gallery Theater is located on the third floor of the main building on the Rio Grande Campus, at the corner of 12th Street and Rio Grande.  For more information and reservations, call (512) 223-3245 or visit www.austincc.edu/drama.
