There are treats, costumes, and nighttime scares. Yep, Halloween is definitely for the weird and that suits Austin just fine. That’s why Halloween in Austin is always filled with a plethora of things to do. The scariest place to be on Halloween is undoubtedly 6th Street, so for those who rather skip the theatrics, here are a few alternatives that will make your Halloween one that you will enjoy and remember without cringing.

House of Torment: 2012 Apocalypse

Howl-O-Ween at Great Wolf Lodge

Howl-O-Ween activities include pumpkin painting & seasonal crafts in Cub Club; meet and greet with the Great Wolf Kids characters, dressed in their Halloween costumes; a fun-filled, spooky costume parade and the chance to collect candy and other goodies along the super sweet Trick-or-Treat Trail throughout the resort. As the moon rises, families to snuggle together for the evening no-so-scary Spooktacular Story Time in the Grand Lobby and then bring their coolest moves to Monster Bash Dance Party (Fridays and Saturdays).

"Nightmare on Jail Hill" Haunted House

Prepare to be scared at Williamson County Brown Santa's Nightmare on Jail Hill, a haunted house held in the old jail. The price is $10/adults and $5/9-12 years. Children 8 and under are not allowed. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. No refunds will be given. The jail is located on the corner of 4th and Main Street in Georgetown. Refreshments will be available for sale. The 6th Annual Murder Mayhem and Misadventure Walking Tour
Located at Oakwood Cemetery, on 1601 Navasota St. 78702

A walk through the Oakwood cemetery with tales of 19th and 20th century murders is sure to frighten but also inform. Tours begin every 20 minutes and lasts about an hour. Spooky Skedaddle 5K and Festival

The Texas School for the death is calling all ghouls, goblins and ghosts! They are inviting kids of all ages to take part in the family-friendly festival, Kid’s Run, and 5K. There will be an array of activities including safe trick-or-treating, hot air balloon glow, games, and costume contests. Entrance is free and tickets can be purchased on-site for games. Guests can enjoy great food, drink specials and music by Susan Arbuckle at Zed's annual Halloween Celebration. Diners will be able to enjoy American comfort food from our new Chef Jacob Hilbert and spooky drinks including Pumpkin Martini, Witch's Brew Coffee and Shiner Bock's Oktoberfest. Be sure and come out early to get a seat on our spacious deck overlooking the band's venue. Family Harvest Fest

Costume time is almost here! Northwest Fellowship will host a FREE Family Harvest Fest with Carnival style game booths that will be open for all ages including a moonwalk, a giant slide, a ring toss game and of course CANDY and prizes. Tickets will be sold for snacks and beverages, as well as a cake walk, and some selected games. There will be free drawings for prizes every 15 minutes to half hour. Admission is free! Northwest Fellowship is located at the corner of Pond Springs Rd. and Anderson Mill Rd, just east of Highway 183.

Take a trip through space with a visit to the planetarium and much, much more! Costumes are encouraged! Bring a flashlight! $5 per person, children 2 and younger are admitted free.

Join Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department for our annual Fall Fun Festival! This year's theme is Dr. Seuss. We will have carnival games for toddlers and preschoolers, hayrides, cookies and punch and fun entertainment for all to enjoy starting at 9:00 am. The festival will run until 11:30 am and we ask that you bring a canned good to donate to the Round Rock Food Pantry.
