Bettie's Box Office: Captain America:The Winter Soldier Review

Updated: Monday, June 2 2014, 11:34 PM CDT

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a sequel that knocks out the original. This film lifts the superhero genre out of its slump with a very likeable cast that knows how to deliver a joke as well as a punch.

Before the US government put him on ice, Captain America (Chris Evans) helped to defeat Hitler's New World Order. Fast-forward to today and he's fighting another world order, this time under the banner of national security. Fortunately, he still has Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to help, because he also has to face off against the ultimate assassin known as The Winter Soldier.

The entire cast is solid, including the two new characters. Robert Redford sprinkles a little movie-star magic on the film as the leader of a secretive security council. Anthony Mackie is the perfectly cast wing man to Captain America. He and Evans have such great chemistry I hope he's back for round three of this Marvel franchise.

I liked the movie, but I would have liked it more if it had been less, about 30 minutes less. Still, this is one of those films you have to see on the big screen so you'll definitely get your money's worth at a matinee

Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens Friday, April 4 and is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence, gunplay and action throughout.
