Bettie's Box Office: If I Stay Movie Review

Updated: Friday, August 22 2014, 04:53 PM CDT

A teenage girl has to make her own life or death decision in If I Stay.

Everything was going well for Mia (Chloe Grace Moretz) until her entire family is killed in a car wreck that also leaves Mia in a coma. She does some soul-searching when her spirit steps outside her battered body to look at things from a different perspective. Will she follow her family into the light or fight her way back for some kind of earthly life?

This film is supposed to showcase a softer side of Chloe Grace Moretz, who is better known for playing darker, troubled characters.  But she doesn't bring much emotional power to this role. About the only time I felt a tug at my heartstrings was when Stacy Keach appeared briefly as her grandfather at her hospital bedside.

If I Stay felt like a made-for-TV movie, so I'd recommend that's where you see it - on a TV when it comes out on DVD. It's rated PG-13 or thematic elements and some sexual material.
