Stuntman Prepares To Tightrope Niagara Falls

Updated: Thursday, June 14 2012, 05:48 PM CDT

Helicopters pulled 1,800 feet of steel cable across Niagara Falls to help prepare a stuntman to walk across the ropes unharnessed.

Seventh-generation stuntman Nik Wallenda will walk across the 2-inch diameter cable from the Canadian border to the United States on Friday.

Wallenda comes from a family of acrobats and gained permission to walk the ropes only after lobbying in Canada and the United States.

The wire rigging process took hours to complete and crews worked overnight into the early morning on Tuesday.

Wallenda plans to wear a water-proof jogging suit and intends to only take 30 to 40 minutes to complete the walk.

“I feel very prepared already. It’s almost game time,” says Wallenda.

If Wallenda slips, his only hope is to grab the steel cable or fall 60 meters below into the rapids.

Walenda has invested more than $1.2 million for the event to help pay for the custom-made steel wire. Stuntman Prepares To Tightrope Niagara Falls
