Austin Man Receives World's First Ever Skull, Scalp Transplant

An Austin man has undergone the world's first partial skull and scalp transplant.

Jim Boysen, 55, is stunned by the success of the operation. He suffers from a rare form of cancer. And when a large head wound would not heal during radiation therapy, doctors said he needed the transplant.

50 medical workers performed the surgery at Houston's MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Boysen says is looking forward to life out of the hospital. "I'd love to go swimming. I haven't been able to go swimming in a while," he said.

Boysen is a software developer in Austin. He says he is thankful for the doctors and nurses who performed the risky surgery.{}
