We Are Austin
San Marcos Downtown Association
Historic downtown San Marcos borders the San Marcos River and the area is considered by archeologists to be the oldest, continuously inhabited area in the Northern Hemisphere. The downtown square, dominated by restored late 1800's & early 1900's buildings, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In the downtown area you will find a variety of restaurants that will meet your food tastes needs; and its unique stores provide a great shopping experience that will make you want to satisfy that shopping itch. On Saturdays come enjoy the Farmers Market where you can purchase fresh local produce and home made items.
San Marcos is also known as a place for experiencing great music. From the Cheatham Street Warehouse, where musicians come to polish their licks, or Triple Crown which has music every day of the week. And the Texas Music Theater, which complements these venues with a larger audience capacity and production capabilities to bring in national acts.
The combination of the San Marcos River and the historic character of the Downtown area make San Marcos a unique place to enjoy both the indoor and outdoor together.
It is a short trip down I-35 to experience the beauty and comfort that San Marcos has to offer.
