Austin Race Track Gets Green Light As Deadline Nears

With just two months to go until race weekend, the Circuit of the Americas facility Southeast of Austin is still very much a construction zone.
So we had to ask the question -- Will the race track be ready in time?
Formula One Race Director Charlie Whiting tells us he wasn't expecting perfection Tuesday during his inspection. "It's not supposed to be totally ready now, but we can see quite clearly that it will be with no problem at all."
Whiting says he inspected the entire track on foot and while buildings and bleachers may still need work, he gives the work on the track surface a very impressive 98.
He adds, "Everything that I've seen so far has been absolutely first class and the progress that has been made since the last time I was here is amazing."
The approval gives construction crews at the site the green light to race down the home stretch toward race day.
The inaugural race at the Circuit of the Americas track will be November 18.
