Airport Gears Up For Busy Travel Day

Updated: Thursday, December 26 2013, 10:21 AM CST

Thursday is expected to be a busy travel day as thousands make their way home.

At Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Thursday morning, security and ticketing counter lines were busy at times during the pre-dawn hours, but not as busy as the days leading up to Christmas.

Still, parking was limited early Thursday morning, with signs showing only the garage and overflow parking open. Overnight, all arrivals were listed as on time, and morning departures were all listed as on time as well.

Across the country, overall Christmas travel is expected to be up for the fifth year in a row and may even break a record. Here in Austin, there's a very good chance it could be up as well. In 2013, passenger traffic is already up six percent over 2012.

Thursday is what airport officials call a peak travel day, so they recommend you get to the airport at least an hour and a half before your flight and check your flight status often.
