Austin Energy Offering Incentives For Two Wheel Electric Vehicles

Updated: Wednesday, October 24 2012, 06:30 AM CDT
Two wheel electric vehicles are becoming more popular around Austin. You’ve probably seen scooters, electric bikes, mopeds, motorcycles or Segways on city streets or the university campus.

Now Austin Energy is recognizing the growth by offering incentives of $50 to $300 toward your purchase.

In the past the city had a similar grant funded program. Now it has expanded to more vehicles. The common trait is that they are all propelled with an electric motor.

Some of the vehicles use human and electric power combined. Speeds can range from 10 to more than 50 miles per hour. Incentives vary on the mileage range.

Austin Energy says choosing electricity as a transportation fuel lowers the amount of pollutants into the air by 98% compared to gas-powered vehicles.

To qualify for a rebate, all purchases must be made through an Austin Energy approved dealership. For more information about the incentives and to view a list of the approved dealerships, visit www.pluginpartners.com .
