Battling PTSD At Free Aikido Workshop

Updated: Friday, May 30 2014, 08:15 AM CDT

Just in time for PTSD Awareness Month, a free Aikido workshop is being offered to veterans suffering from the disorder.

Tom Osborn, Sensei of Keganin No Senshi Wounded Warrior Aikido, has traveled from Massachusetts to Austin to teach the course at South Austin Aikido on May 31. Osborn is a Vietnam veteran who has used the marital art to bring calmness to his life and developed Keganin No Senshi program specifically for combat veterans with PTSD.

Todd Kammerer, Head Instructor at South Austin Aikido, says Aikido teaches students to convert negative, aggressive energy from others into energy they can use constructively.

The free workshop will be held at South Austin Aikido at 1701 West Ben White, Suite 130. The workshop starts at 9:00 am. If you're a veteran suffering from PTSD and can't make it to the workshop, Kammerer says you can contact him at 512-850-4791 or todd.kammerer@southaustinaikido.com to get a free trial for a later time.
