Cold Weather Has Homeowners Searching For Warmer Places To Live

Updated: Wednesday, January 29 2014, 07:54 AM CST

Cold temperatures in parts of the country are having an effect on real estate markets. Many are turning to the web, searching for warmer places to live.

A study by real estate website Trulia found in the cold months between December 1st and now, there was a huge spike in home searches for warmer parts of the country. With every 10 degrees the temperature dropped, home searches increased by 2.6% and there was a 4.4% increase in searches for homes in warm parts of the country.

It's no surprise Miami topped the list for searches, followed by Phoenix, Arizona, Jacksonville, Florida, Orange County, California and Richmond, Virginia.

The study also found twice the amount of searches for warm vacation spots.
