Cool Schools, Dripping Springs High School

Updated: Thursday, November 21 2013, 09:14 AM CST

Dripping Springs High School in Hays County has made KEYE TV's list for Cool Schools. Thursday, students and faculty woke up bright and early to entertain us with their talents.

The Hi-Steppers, Cheerleaders, Color Team and of course the amazing Tiger Band played music and cheered for 2 hours for our morning newscast. It was a spectacular show for KEYE TV Morning News viewers to wake up to.

Dripping Springs High School offers a multitude of programs that give their students real life experiences. We were honored to speak with a group of students in the Business Class who run the Tiger Shack. Imagine a college Co-op, with school clothing and memorabilia inside. It's pretty amazing to learn the students have to obtain sponsors, select clothing and order it all by themselves. Talk about a great business education!

Another impressive activity on campus involves a group of students that take part in mock trials. Students team up with local attorneys, the Hays County Courthouse and Hays-Caldwell Women's Center to put on a mock trial. Some students play the role of witnesses, others are lawyers or defendants. The purpose is to raise awareness for domestic violence.

The Dripping Springs FFA Chapter is also gaining attention for winning the Sweepstakes Award in recent competition. Team members were also proud to announce they moved on to the Area Leadership Team Competition and scored high. Students in FFA strive to develop leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

The Tiger Robotics Team will also be going to competition in January. Students will have to direct a robot without a driver for the First Tech Challenge. Good luck!

The KEYE TV Morning News team would like to thank all Dripping Springs High School students and faculty who participated in Cool Schools.
