Cool Schools, Stony Point High School

Updated: Friday, November 22 2013, 08:36 AM CST

Stony Point High School in Round Rock has made KEYE TV's list for Cools Schools. The gym was a full house on Friday as the school band, color guard, cheerleading team, Mariachi Los Tigres, Ballet Folklorico and numerous clubs woke up bright and early to perform for our morning viewers.

Stony Point excels both in academics and extracurricular activities. It's not every day that KEYE visits a high school that has a mariachi band paired with traditional Latin American dances. Students with Mariachi Los Tigres and Alma Mexicana Ballet Folklorico say they're thankful Stony Point offers these traditional Hispanic activities so they can learn about their roots.

Other unique clubs you won't find at many high schools include a stomp group and a hip hop group. On the academic side there's the IB Diploma Programme where students go beyond what is academically required of them by beefing up their studies and volunteer work.  IB students have also partnered with LEAP Science and Math School in Cape Town, South Africa. During regular Skype sessions, students engage in a cross-cultural exchange.

The Academies program is also offered at Stony Point. Students involved in Academies get hands on experience in a field or trade which can be a great asset when entering college or getting a trade certificate to go straight into the workforce.

KEYE TV Morning News would like to thank Stony Point students and faculty for opening up your high school to our viewers. We had a spectacular time learning about all Stony Point High School has to offer.
