Former Studios Of Local Radio Station Face Wrecking Ball

Updated: Wednesday, May 2 2012, 08:43 AM CDT
For nearly 25 years, KVET-KASE radio produced award-winning country music programs from its studios at 705 North Lamar Blvd.  The stations were bought by Clear Channel and consolidated with their other Austin stations at their South Congress Avenue complex.  But the Lamar studios are still held in high regard by the people who worked there.

In its hey-day, country's brightest stars climbed the steps to the 2nd floor radio studios:  Willie Nelson, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Tammy Wyneete, The Judds and so many more.

That's why-- with the old studios facing the wrecking ball-- dozens of former staffers gathered to give the old building a proper farewell party.  The building will be razed to make room for a mixed-use commercial development and much-needed parking in an area of Austin that has seen a lot of growth in recent years.
