Futuristic Cars Showcased At 2014 Consumer Electronics Show

Updated: Wednesday, January 8 2014, 08:26 AM CST

The wave of the future for cars has arrived at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. We're talking cars that drive themselves, power themselves and communicate with one another. Sounds like a scene from the Jetsons!

First on the pedestal is Ford's C-Max Solar Energy Concept car that pairs with a canopy to serve as a magnifying glass. Also on display, a self-driving electric shuttle called Navio by Induct. Just choose your location, press go and sit back and enjoy the ride.

Audi is also impressing the crowds at the CES with a preview of its autonomous technology that it hopes to deliver within five years. The car uses its own radar, sonar, forward cam and a new laser to map out the world around it and do its own steering, breaking and accelerating.

Ford and Mercedes Benz are also showcasing vehicle to vehicle technology that allow cars to share information and avoid collision and Toyota is debuting a hydrogen powered car called FCV that will use hydrogen as fuel and emit only water vapor from the exhaust. It's expected to cost anywhere from $50,000-$100,000 and a select number will be available for purchase this year, mainly in California.
