Holiday Decorating Tips And Tricks

Updated: Monday, December 2 2013, 08:20 AM CST

Can you believe Thanksgiving is already over and Christmas is just weeks away? It's time to start putting up your decorations, a fun, but dreaded activity for most of us. Cody Jones, Garden Department Manager at Home Depot in the Mueller Shopping Center says it's easy to select the perfect tree. There's the saver, an artificial tree that's full of lights, but energy efficient, the small dweller, an artificial tree that's perfect for an apartment size Christmas, the standard, a live Christmas tree that fills your room with the smell of fresh pine and the speed demon, a tree that's a piece of cake to assemble and has the lights already on it. Home Depot has all of these trees in stock. Tree tip, if you get a real one, make sure to add plenty of water and a few tablespoons of sugar to keep it looking lively.

When it comes to decorating the outside of your home Jones suggests going with LED lights. They're 85% more energy efficient than incandescents and they don't give off a lot of heat, so they reduce the risk of a home fire, compared to traditional lights that are still sold. Here's something to note, the age-old light bulb will become obsolete January 1, 2014.

Decorating your lawn can be simple too. Just add a blow up snowman or a LED reindeer and your home will scream Christmas.
