Infant Body Found In San Antonio Recycling Center

Updated: Tuesday, December 24 2013, 04:12 AM CST

Authorities say a dead baby was found at a recycling center in San Antonio.

Police say the body was left inside a blue duffel bag.

They have not yet said if there were signs of trauma on the infant.

It appears the baby was less than two weeks old.

A police sergeant says there are always better options available to mothers of unwanted babies.

"Certainly you can take an unwanted child to a fire station or a police station if you're not able to take care of a child,” said Sgt. Daniel Gonzales of the San Antonio Police Department. “But certainly it should never get to this type of situation to where you just discard a child like it’s common trash."

An investigation is underway.

Workers at the plant are being interviewed and part of the plant has stopped production.
