Memorial Day Meals For Guests And Pets

This Memorial Day weekend as you prepare to grill, knock two birds out with one stone and make food fit for your guests and pets.

Dr. Janice Elenbass, owner of Lucky Dog Cuisine, says it's perfectly healthy to feed a dog human grade food if it's made with whole foods. By feeding your dog whole foods, she says they'll have more energy, a stronger immune system, more resistant to fleas and ticks and a healthy coat.

Burgers for everyone:

Mix together beef


Grated carrots



Fresh tomato salsa with green peppers

Mash garbanzo beans for a little hummus on top

Quinoa salad for the entire family:

2 cups of organic Quinoa

4 cups beef broth preferably reduced sodium

1 medium carrot grated

1 medium green pepper - finely chopped

1 medium red pepper - finely chopped

1 apple - grated

2 T extra virgin olive oil

juice of half a lemon

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

1/2 cup fresh chopped parsley

1 T dried oregano

8 oz reduced sodium feta cheese

2 - 15 oz cans of pink, skin on salmon

Cook quinoa in beef broth for 15 min until moisture is absorbed. Fluff with a fork. Let quinoa cool. Combine with all other ingredients. For increased taste, let sit in the refrigerator for at least an hour.

This recipe provides a good source of Vit D, C, A and iron with lots of great omega 3 fatty acids too. It is low in fat and gluten free.
