MetroRail Resumes Full Service After Freight Derailment

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 04:12 PM CDT

Capital Metro resumes full service for its MetroRail service after an interruption caused by a derailment early Wednesday.  Half a dozen cars went off the tracks on a freight train that shares the rail line with the MetroRail service.  Because of the mess, MetroRail was only able to go as far as their MLK station and passengers were bused the rest of the way into downtown.

Overnight CapMetro was able to remove the disabled freight cars from the MetroRail line in order to resume full service.  The freight train continues to block Pedernales St. at 5th Street.

CapMetro says it still doesn’t know what caused the derailment and it may take weeks for investigators to give them a definite answer.
