No Sleep For Non-Profits, 24 Hr. Event Wraps Up

Updated: Friday, October 25 2013, 08:53 AM CDT

50 Austin graphic artists, marketing professionals and website designers volunteered 24 straight hours of their time to 7 lucky non-profits for Build-A-Sign's annual CreateAthon Austin.

CreateAthon is a 24-hour, work-around the clock event that brings volunteers together to provide pro bono creative services to selected nonprofit organizations.

A lot of coffee, some cat naps and tons of junk food kept the volunteers working from noon on October 24th to noon on October 25th. In that time creative services and materials worth more than $100,000 were given away for free.

Chelsea Woodhead Communications Director of Culture and Communications at BuildASign.com told KEYE it's important to volunteer, but even more crucial to donate your professional services to non-profits in need because many of these nonprofits don't have extensive marketing budgets.

30 non-profits applied for the opportunity to get free marketing help, but only 7 were chosen: AGE of Central Texas, Austin Pets Alive, Austin YMBL Sunshine Camps, Center for Child Protection, Fusebox Festival, Spirit Reins and Waterloo Counseling Center.
