Nonprofit Grades Austin Area Schools

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 04:12 PM CDT

If you could grade your child's school, what would you give it?  Later Monday, Children at Risk, a nonprofit dedicated to "improving quality of life for kids", will release its findings on nearly 400 schools.

This is the 8th year they've ranked the schools across the state, but the first year they've used letter grades. Graduation rates, STAAR results, and attendance numbers were the main criteria.

They also factor in the number of economically disadvantaged kids and improvements in standardized test scores.

Compared to the rest of the state, Austin actually stacks up quite well. Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio schools also came under the microscope, but Austin that had the highest percentage of "A" campuses at 19 and the lowest percentage of "F" campuses at 2%.

Officials, including Round Rock ISD Superintendent Dr. Jesus Chavez, are expected to release more on the findings Monday morning.
