Running Group Motivating Homeless Population

Updated: Wednesday, March 26 2014, 08:49 AM CDT

Running can kick start your day and put you on a path to success. Austin non profit Back On My Feet is running with that mindset to motivate the city's homeless population.

Back On My Feet partners with local shelters and halfway houses. Residents who have lived at one of the facilities for 30 days are introduced to the program. They complete a dedication contract and goal sheet. The concept is life throws obstacles your way, but with perseverance you can conquer them one step at a time.

On Monday's, Wednesday's and Friday's at 5:30 am, residents and runners from the community meet up for a morning run and a pep talk. After 30 days in the program, members can have access to educational and job training opportunities, financial aid and even housing.
