Seton Offering Free Laughter Therapy Session

Updated: Tuesday, March 11 2014, 07:48 AM CDT

We've all heard the old adage, laughter is the best medicine. Now you can learn how to reap the benefits, while having some fun.

At 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 11th, Seton Medical Center Williamson will host a laughter therapy class as a part of the Very Important Hearts Program.

Laughter exercise sessions will be led by a teacher and will focus on enjoyment and strive to cultivate childlike playfulness.

A University of Maryland Medical Center study suggests that laughter may prevent heart disease and it also increases oxygen in the blood vessels, relieves stress, anxiety, depression and pain. Research recommends 15 minutes of laughter a day paired with regular exercise to promote cardiovascular health.

The session is free and open to the public and you don't need to be a Seton patient to attend. Seton Medical Center Williamson is located at 201 Seton Parkway in Round Rock.
