5 Tips for Healthier Eating Habits

Grill Smarter

Cut your saturated fat intake by grilling leaner meats. Look for anything with “round, loin or flank” in the name, like flank steak or pork tenderloin which are leaner cuts of meat.

Rethink Your Sauce

Depending on the brand, two tablespoons of BBQ sauce has around 50 calories and 12 grams of sugar. But instead of a high sugar, high salt sauce, rely on the garden to add flavor to your cookout.

Add in Antioxidants

Rethink the classic high-calorie white potato salad with some colorful antioxidant-rich additions.

Swap Mayo for Hummus

Try a tablespoon of hummus instead of a tablespoon of mayo in some of your creamy summertime favorites like deviled eggs, and you’ll save more than 60 calories and 9 grams of fat.

Increase the Protein

We’ve even made a healthier macaroni salad for summer with gluten free brown rice macaroni (more fiber and a better whole grain choice than regular noodles), fat free Greek yogurt, green peas, egg white, fresh basil and heart-healthy salmon.
