Souper Bowl Of Caring Kicks Off

Updated: Friday, January 10 2014, 07:57 AM CST

The Austin community has joined forces to tackle hunger. KEYE TV, plus other media, local high school students, Boy Scouts, H-E-B, Randalls and Central market gathered on Friday to kick off Souper Bowl of Caring.

The event filled with poster making, canned goods stacking and performances was hosted at Anderson High School. Last year students at Anderson collected the most canned goods and monetary donations out of all participating local high schools.

Souper Bowl of Caring is Capital Area Food Bank of Central Texas' largest food donation fundraiser for the year. This year the goal is to collect enough canned goods and cash donations to put 1.3 million meals on the table for hungry Central Texans.

You can help by purchasing a pre-packaged bag of canned goods at H-E-B, Randalls and Central market now through the Super Bowl.  You can also host a food drive at your school, business or house of worship. Simply register at www.tacklehunger.org. The other option is to donate at your door. Depending on where you live, the Capitol Area Council Boy Scouts will deliver a flier to your house on Saturday, January 25th. If you get that flier you can leave nonperishables on your doorstep to be picked up the Saturday morning, on February 1st.

100% of the donations go to hunger relief here in Central Texas. Souper Bowl of caring starts January 10th and goes until February 2nd.
