Spring Cleaning Your Computers And Smartphones

Updated: Monday, May 19 2014, 07:57 AM CDT

Just like our homes, our computers and smart devices also need a good spring cleaning.

For your computers, the Geek Squad at Best Buy suggests you defragment your hard drive and delete multiple antivirus programs.

To defragment go to your control panel, click on system and security and then defragment. The Geek Squad says defragmenting can help your programs and files to open quicker.

To remove antivirus programs also go into your control panel, then click uninstall a program.

When it comes to your smartphone delete any unused apps and trash old photos and contacts. Another great tip is to turn off location updates for apps. The location updates access your GPS constantly, slowing down your device and draining your battery. The Geek Squad says you should also disable push notifications and prevent automatic app updates.

If your smartphone is 2 to 3 years old, the Geek Squad says it may be time to update to a newer version. They say your device reaches a point where the hardware won't support the new software coming up. So regardless of any updates you install, your device will still run slowly.
