UPDATE: Smithville Fire 55% Contained

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 04:13 PM CDT
A late night fight in Burnet erupted in gunfire, sending two suspects to the hospital and a third into custody. People inside the apartment where it happened tell KEYE-TV two men tried to blow open their door with a shotgun.

According to Burnet police, the fight started outside a second floor unit at the Main St. Commons on the 1000 block of North Main around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. The two women inside the unit at the time say the man they were with grabbed one of the suspect's guns and began firing back at the two suspects when shots rang out and bullets began flying. One pickup unaffiliated with the shooting was hit with a bullet, spraying glass across the parking lot. Police say at least five shots were fired total.

The victims, two women inside the apartment, say they believe this started over $60 and tell KEYE TV they knew the two men who came looking for a fight. When they tried to run inside and lock the door behind them, the suspects reportedly used the shotgun to blow the lock off the door. That's when they say the man they were with inside the apartment, who police later took into custody, began firing back with a pistol he took from the two men. Police say those two men outside the apartment were hit by gunfire and took off. Police later caught up with them in the parking lot of the Best Western motel.

Police believe everyone connected with the incident is in custody. As for the two men shot, one was taken to a Williamson County hospital, where he was taken into surgery, the other was treated and then transported to the Burnet County jail. Police still do not have exact charges for the three men.

Texas Rangers and DPS are helping with the investigation.
