University Of Texas Prepares For Farewell To Darrell Royal
Updated: Tuesday, November 13 2012, 10:35 AM CST
They scheduled it for noon to give as many people a chance to attend-- possibly over an extended lunch break. And they're holding the memorial service in a hall big enough to accomodate all of his fans. The public memorial for legendary Texas football coach Darrell K Royal will be held beginning at noon at the Frank Erwin Center. Thousands are expected to attend the serice including a huge number of VIPs. If you're going, you'll enter through the arena-level doors which will open at 10:30 A.M. Seating will be available throughout the arena and mezzanine.
Free parking will be available at UT's Trinity Public Garage at the corner of Trinity and MLK Blvd. across the street from the swim center and at the Manor Public Garage between DKR and the Mike Myers track and field stadium. Free parking will also be available at Disch-Falk Field across I-35 from the Erwin Center. A shuttle service will be provided from these parking locations to the Erwin Center beginning at 10:00am.
If you are unable to attend, we will be livestreaming the entire event on our website, keyetv.com. We will also have team coverage tonight on KEYE TV News at 5, 6 and 10.
If you would like to make a memorial contribution to honor Coach Royal, the family recommends the Darrell K Royal Fund for Alzheimers Research and the DKR 40 Acres Scholarship Fund.
