Padron Autopsy Evidence Presented In Daniel Murder Trial

Updated: Monday, February 24 2014, 12:14 PM CST

The prosecution rested its case Thursday in the trial of a man accused of killing an Austin police officer.

Brandon Daniel is charged with capital murder in the death of Officer Jaime Padron in April 2012. Police say Daniel shot Padron in a North Austin Wal-Mart.

This morning Travis County Medical Examiner David Dolinak testified. He displayed images from Padron's autopsy. Dolinak testified the bullet wound in Padron's neck indicated the muzzle of the gun was pressed against it when the shot was fired. The autopsy found a bullet entered Padron's neck, went through voice box, hit a neck bone, hit two arteries then exited neck, Dolinak said.

Some members of the Padron family left the courtroom during this testimony.

Also prosecutors submitted into evidence an ATF form shows Daniel bought the gun used to kill Padron at pawn shop in Colorado in 2009.

The state called Dallas-based forensic toxicologist Aria McCall to testify.  She screened Daniel's blood for drugs and found a high level of Xanax in his blood.

Homicide investigator David Fugitt interrogated Daniel. He testified that Daniel told him, "Everything is blurry. I remember bits and pieces."
