Early Voting Begins for November Elections

Updated: Monday, October 21 2013, 10:43 AM CDT

Early voting begins today in Central Texas, and there are a lot of controversial issues on this year's ballots.

All Texas voters will decide on Proposition 6. It's the creation of a State Water Fund, to pay for water projects that would ensure the constant availability of water for at least the next 50 years.

In Austin, voters will also look at a $65 million bond to pay for affordable housing. Last year, the $78 million affordable housing bond was one of the only two propositions rejected by voters. Those who support the bond say there's a need for about 38,000 units, for all of the homeless families in Austin.

Williamson County voters are deciding on a $275 million bond for the construction of new roads, and another $40 million for the parks and recreation department.

The City of Round Rock wants voters to approve $23.2 million for its library facilities, and more than $27 million to combine the police and fire departments' training facilities.

Over in Hays County, San Marcos voters will decide on some changes in city council.

Early voting ends Friday, November 1. Election Day is Tuesday, November 5.
