Planned Parenthood Launches Statewide Tour

Updated: Tuesday, July 9 2013, 12:07 PM CDT

Planned Parenthood used the Texas Capitol as backdrop to kick off a cross-Texas tour to herald its pro-choice message as the fight over new abortion restrictions ratchets up in the Legislature.

State Senator Wendy Davis (D-Fort Worth), seen by many as a rising star in the Democratic Party after her high profile filibuster grounded Republican efforts to pass the restrictions in the last special session, spoke at the event alongside other prominent pro-choice voices.

State Senator Kirk Watson (D-Austin), Planned Parenthood Action Fund president Cecile Richards, and Amy Kamp, an uninsured woman who says she relies on Planned Parenthood for car, also helped launch the Stand with Texas Women tour.

Planned Parenthood says it will hold events around the state featuring community members and medical experts who will call on lawmakers to protect abortion rights.
