Rick Santorum Calls For Republican Rebranding In Texas

Updated: Thursday, January 9 2014, 07:14 PM CST

It's straight talk from a social conservative.

"We are the happy status quo. They are the vigilante revolutionaries and they're winning because we're not fighting," said Rick Santorum.

The former Pennsylvania senator ignited a fire under the Republican Party.

"Stop rolling over, they don't," added Santorum.

The one-time presidential hopeful made his remarks at the Texas Public Policy Foundation's 12th annual conference in Austin.

Santorum talked a lot about the state of the economy. Santorum believes the income gap has widened over the past four years and claims republicans aren't doing a good job reaching out to those who are struggling.

Santorum stressed the need to emotionally connect with people, something he credits the democrats with doing well.

But that's where the praise ends. Santorum called President Obama's Affordable Care Act "un-American" and destined to fail.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal also threw some verbal jabs.

"How many moms and dads have told their kids anybody can become President of the United States. Unfortunately we learned in this last election just how true that statement was," said Jindal.

And with the next presidential election looming, both agree, it's time to rally the base.

"That's our problem, we don't talk to the people who want to be with us," added Santorum.

Santorum tells KEYE TV he has not ruled out making another run for the White House.
