Updated: Monday, February 13 2012, 09:19 AM CST
Texas Gov. Rick Perry has
suspended his race for president before the GOP debate in South
Carolina Thursday night and has endorsed Newt Gingrich.

Perry
held a news conference at 10 a.m. CST in South Carolina where he
announced his decision saying he ran for president because he loves
America, but conservatism is not embodied by one individual.

Perry
said he concluded there was no "viable path forward" for him in the
race. He endorsed Gingrich, calling him a ‘conservative visionary.'

He has faced calls to drop out of the race in recent days as polls show him languishing while Gingrich gained steam.Texas Gov. Rick Perry drops bid for GOP presidential nomination, endorses Gingrich
