Round Rock Mandatory Water Restrictions Could Start Next Week

Updated: Thursday, October 10 2013, 05:37 AM CDT
This morning, new numbers are coming out for lake levels, and later today, Round Rock could join the growing list of Central Texas cities to toughen water restrictions in the face of the drought.

Tonight, Round Rock's City Council could vote on putting Stage 1 water restrictions in place. That means  residents could only water twice a week, with no watering allowed between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. So why now?

Last week the Brazos River Authority sent a letter to the city, asking them to cut water usage by 10 percent. Right now, most of the city's water comes from Lake Georgetown, and the BRA says both the drought and usage are draining the lake. As of Thursday morning, lake levels are about 18 feet below normal.

If Council OKs those Stage 1 restrictions, they'd kick in on Monday. The City Council meeting starts at 7 p.m. at 221 East Main Street.Round Rock Mandatory Water Restrictions Could Start Next Week
