Souper Bowl of Caring: Jan 10-Feb 2

Updated: Thursday, January 9 2014, 02:34 PM CST

What is Souper Bowl of Caring?

•             Souper Bowl of Caring uses the energy of the Super Bowl to mobilize youth in a united national effort to care for people in their local communities who are hungry and those in need.

How can people help?

•             Donate at your local grocery store. Donate a pre-packed bag of food at any H-E-B, Central Market or Randalls or give a cash donation at the register between Jan. 10 and Super Bowl Sunday. These donations will be distributed among the partner agencies served by the Capital Area Food Bank.

•             Host a food drive at your school, business or house of worship. Every dollar and can of food goes directly to a hunger relief organization of your choice. Be sure to register and report your collection on tacklehunger.org so it can be added to the local and national totals!

•             Donate at your door! Depending on where you live, you may be able to donate your door. The Capitol Area Council Boy Scouts will deliver a flier to Austin area houses on Sat., Jan. 25. If you receive a flier, you can leave nonperishables on your doorstep the morning of Sat., Feb. 1 for the Boy Scouts to pick up.

Why should people donate?

•             100 percent goes to a hunger relief organization.

•             Nearly one in five Texans live below the Federal Poverty Line

•             One in 4 children in Central Texas is at risk of hunger

•             $1 = $5 worth of nutritious food

There are several ways you can help. Organize a group to raise donations or donate directly.
