99-year-old Runner Sets World Record

Updated: Tuesday, August 19 2014, 03:22 PM CDT
AKRON, OH (WEWS)-- Are you looking for some motivation to get out and exercise? Look no further than 99-year-old Ida Keeling of Akron, Ohio.

On Tuesday, Keeling set a world record for her age group in the 100-meter dash at the Gay Games.

Though she came in last, her 59.80 second run was met with applause by everyone in attendance, including her coach and daughter Shelley Kelling.

Keeling says she began running in 1967 in part to deal with the grief of losing two sons three years apart in New York City.

The great, great grandmother is optimistic about competing next year when she will be eligible to break yet another record as a 100-year-old.

"I feel I'm still a winner. That's all," Keeling said.

"Mom is amazing even to me. I have to admit that. She is a remarkable human being," said her daughter Shelley.

"My doctor told me two years straight I'm as healthy as a healthy 20-year-old. Hooray!" Keely said after her run.  "Do what you need to do, not what you want to do and don't leave out your daily exercise."99-year-old Runner Sets World Record
