Abortion-Rights Activists Arrested Outside Texas Gov.'s Mansion

8:25 p.m. UPDATE: According to Texas Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Robbie Barrera, the group was blocking a pedestrian crosswalk near the intersection of 11th Street and Congress Avenue. They were arrested after refusing to move.

Each person was charged with obstructing highway or other passageway, a class B misdemeanor.

EARLIER:Almost a dozen abortion-rights activists were arrested Wednesday afternoon outside the Texas governor's mansion in Downtown Austin.

According to Austin police 11 people were arrested and transported to the Travis County Jail.

The protest started at around 4 p.m.

All those arrested were attempting to block the roadway, police say.
