AISD Police: Teacher Could Have More Sexual Assault Victims

Updated: Tuesday, June 17 2014, 01:00 PM CDT

An Austin Independent School District teacher is accused of sexually assaulting a six-year-old student. Now, school officials say there could be more victims.

Police arrested 33-year old Alfredo Andrade Gayton on Friday night.

According to the arrest affidavit, the sexual assault happened on June 11 at Reilly Elementary School in North Austin.

"I'm not going to bring my kid back tomorrow. No, no, I don't feel safe and I don't think my son is safe in here," says Mercedes Ramirez, whose child is a student at Reilly Elementary school.

AISD Police Chief Eric Mendez says, "We received some parents who are concerned about bringing their parents to school, we worked with them through the day, we worked with them even after the meeting."

Chief Mendez says district officials allowed parents to meet with their child's teacher and sit in classrooms in an effort to make them feel at ease.

AISD officials say Gayton had been working in the district ten years, as both a teacher's assistant and teacher in five different schools.

We asked Chief Mendez if there could be more victims. Chief Mendez responded, "There's always the possibility when you have an individual that's been around children for many years, there's always a possibility, we hope that there's not."

Until officers are able to hear from all the parents, they won't know.

Ramirez says, "I used to believe that school was his second home, but it's not, it's not, he's not safe."
