APD: Traffic Stop Leads To Sexual Assault Of A Child Arrest

Updated: Monday, August 25 2014, 06:12 PM CDT

A man wanted for sexual assault of a child was arrested last Friday during a traffic stop, Austin police say.

Police say 22-year-old Melvin Alexander Aguilar was stopped by officers for a traffic violation and did not have a photo ID -- but the identity he provided to the officer matched that of a suspect in a sexual assault of a child case from 2012.

Aguilar was arrested for no driver's license and it was later learned that he was in fact the person who was wanted by police, investigators say.

He is currently being held in the Travis County jail.

He's facing two counts of sexual assault of a child, both second degree felonies, two counts of indecency with a child by contact, both second degree felonies, and two counts of indecency with a child by exposure, both third degree felonies.
