Austin Fugitive Accused Of Sexual Assault

Updated: Wednesday, September 3 2014, 09:54 PM CDT

The U.S. Marshals Service says they need your help finding an Austin sexual assault suspect.

Investigators say on July 12, 2013 a woman staying at an Austin motel said James Melvin, the motel manager, sexually assaulted her.

"Roughly at about 4:30 in the morning is when he sneaks into bed with his victim and the victim awakes and finds herself naked and with James Melvin back behind her," says Deputy U.S. Marshal Brandon Filla.

Investigators say Melvin used his management key to get into her room. Melvin denied it ever happened -- but police say DNA evidence tells a different story.

By the time officers went in to make an arrest Melvin fled the area.

Deputy US Marshal Brandon Filla says Melvin could still be in the Austin area.

"We looked back at information where he was living in the northern part of San Antonio, he's got addresses that are in between San Antonio and Austin at this time," says Filla.

He also has family in the eastern region of the country and is originally from Georgia.

James Melvin is 5'7" and weighs 183 pounds.
