Updated: Thursday, August 28 2014, 12:12 PM CDT
An Austin mom is getting probation for leaving her baby in a hot car.

Debra Ary pleaded guilty this month to a misdemeanor charge of attempting to endanger a child.

Under the deal, the 28-year-old mother will serve two years probation, undergo counseling and take parenting classes. According to an arrest affidavit, Ary left her 10-month old in a locked car at an HEB in East Austin.

Temperatures that day rose above 100 degrees. A shopper noticed the child and alerted a security guard who smashed the window.

Surveillance video shows the baby was in the hot car for nearly a half hour. Ary was initially charged with endangering a child, a state felony punishable by up to 2 years in prison. Austin Mom Gets Probation For Leaving Baby In Hot Car
