Bastrop Wildfire Victims Get Free Tree Service

Updated: Wednesday, July 16 2014, 05:20 PM CDT

Almost three years after fire tore through this Bastrop County neighborhood, landowners are still struggling to clear the deadwood. But a unique partnership is now allowing a green way to clear the trees at no cost to the homeowners.

Dennis Parker and his business partners at Go Green International volunteered to harvest the burned trees and take care of the problem at no charge.

Parker notes, "The community would not have the funds to clear all of these trees.  It's very very expensive."

To be clear, Parker is making money. His locally-based company takes 40 to 50 truckloads of burnt trees every day and grinds them into fuel pellets which he sells. And the county sweetened the deal by giving Go Green an 85 percent tax abatement.

And that's not all. Parker adds, "The county does help us in the coordinating, the management of the properties to make sure we're cutting everybody in a correct order and nobody gets left behind."

Go Green only goes where they're invited. So Parker is urging landowners affected by the wildfires to sign up now. You may register on their web site or by calling 512-581-4013.
