Big Bill To Investigate UT Regent Wallace Hall

Updated: Thursday, June 12 2014, 08:40 AM CDT

The state's bill for its investigation into embattled University of Texas System Regent Wallace Hall is now more than $300,000.

The Dallas Morning News reports the tally includes nearly $94,000 in legal fees and expenses from November for a lawyer working on behalf of the Select Committee on Transparency in State Agency Operations.

The committee voted last month that grounds exists to impeach Hall over his efforts to force out the president of the flagship Austin campus. The panel now must write formal charges to send to the full House. If approved by the House, the matter would be sent to the Senate for a trial.

If impeached, Hall could be the first governor-appointed official removed from office in state history.

Hall, a Dallas businessman, has denied wrongdoing.
