Bowie High School Coach, Teacher Passes Away

Updated: Tuesday, June 17 2014, 10:37 AM CDT
A Bowie High School math teacher and Volleyball Head Coach passed away according to school officials.

An Austin Independent School District spokesperson said "our thoughts go out to the family and to the entire Bowie community."

The Principal at Bowie High School, Stephen Kane, sent the following letter to parents:

June 16, 2014

Dear Bowie Staff, Students, Parents and Community:

It is with great sorrow and hurt that I send you this email. This morning I received word that our good friend, teacher and colleague, Jason Landers, passed away.

For students, staff and parents who come to school with flowers, candles, letters or any vigil items, I ask that you bring such items to the flagpole in the front of campus.

There will be a memorial set up under the flagpole by 6 p.m. today, (Monday, June 16). These items will be displayed until Wednesday, June 18.  On Thursday, items will be picked up and taken to the family.

Tuesday and Wednesday, June 17, counselors will be available in the library from 9 a.m.—p.m. for students, staff and parents seeking counseling.

I will share additional information as it is available. The passing of Coach Landers is truly a loss to all of us in the Bowie family.

Now is the time for us to show how strong we are by coming together to support each other in this time of need. Please keep Coach Landers and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Stephen Kane, Principal   Bowie High School Coach, Teacher Passes Away
