Need a Late Night Ride? Capital Metro Offers Safe and Sober Options.

Now that summer is here, more people are taking advantage of the longer daylight hours and fun things to do around the city, including late night offerings around town. For those seeking a safe and sober ride home after the festivities are over, Capital Metro has many convenient and low-cost options to choose from.

Two services, the Night Owl and E-Bus, operate especially late into the night to ensure people get home safely.

Night Owls operate year-round from midnight until 3 a.m. Monday through Saturday, with five routes than run between popular late-night destinations on 6th Street and local neighborhoods. Buses run every 20 to 30 minutes, and a single ride costs $1, or $2 for a Day Pass.

Also offered are three E-Bus routes each fall and spring, when more UT students are on campus. E-Buses operate from midnight until 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, and travel between popular student housing neighborhoods and downtown. The cost to ride is $1, or $2 for a Day Pass. UT students and staff ride free with valid ID.

Other evening choices include:

MetroRail – Operates Friday nights between downtown and Leander, with the last train leaving downtown at 12:30 a.m. On Saturday nights, trains run between downtown and Lakeline, with the last departure downtown at midnight. A single ride costs $2.75, or $5.50 for a Day Pass.

MetroRapid Route 801 – Runs between Tech Ridge and Southpark Meadows until 12:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday, with service every 10-30 minutes depending on time of day. Sunday service runs until 10:30 p.m. A single ride costs $1.50, or $3 for a Day Pass.

MetroBus – Operates throughout Capital Metro’s service area, with many routes running until midnight. A single ride on MetroBus is $1, or $2 for a Day Pass.
