Change Toilets to Sell House

Updated: Monday, June 16 2014, 10:32 PM CDT
We've seen the lake.  It's bad. The worst in decades!  The Austin Water Resource Planning Task Force is charged do so something about it.

Chair Sharlene Leurig says it's getting close.  "We're looking at options including an interim drought stage which would allow us to extend the life of the lakes without having to cut off all outdoor watering."

That interim stage would sit between stages 2 and 3.  That's not the only option.
Mandatory low flush toilets to sell a house are also an option.  "It presents an upfront cost at the time of sale, but ultimately it would pay off over time" Leurig explains.

Speaking of pay-off, the task force is even considering giving away cash for people who buy super low flow toilets.

The task force is also tossing around the idea of switching out 190,000 water meters to smart meters.  "All the options are focused on extended the life of the highland lakes" Leurig continued.

The task force has until Thursday to figure it out. Monday night there was still some debate.  One thing they all agree on, water, or the lack of it, is a big concern.  As for what that could mean for your yard, your wallet, or your bathroom, we'll have to wait a few more days.

The final recommendations will go to council at the end of the week.  The council will then decide which options to adopt.
