Daycare Burglars Busted In Austin

Updated: Tuesday, August 26 2014, 06:29 PM CDT
Austin Police have arrested three people accused of stealing and cashing nearly $100,000 worth of stolen checks.

"Their main objective is burglary and bank fraud, forgeries," said Austin Police Detective Jared Manning.

The suspects, Johntavias Brown, Taneisha Story, and Tabatha Emerich are a part of the 'Felony Lane Gang,' based out of Florida, police say.

Detectives linked the trio to a string of vehicle burglaries in parking lots at fitness and daycare centers in South Austin.

The Children's Center, off Bee Cave Road, was one of them.  "It happened so fast and it's not okay," recalled Regional Director Tanya Saenz.

After snatching the purses, police said the members of the 'felony lane gang' took the stolen checks through the bank drive thru and used stolen IDs to cash them.

On August 14th, cops said they tracked the trio to a Comerica Bank off of West 35th St. in Austin.

"They watched them go through the bank our detective were watching them called bank and said hey someone is trying to cash forged checks at the bank right now," added Manning.

The suspects took off, but couldn't escape the law. Cops caught the three and charged them with forgery, fraud, and engaging in organized crime.

Detectives are still searching for a fourth suspect, Colleen Akers, believed to be in Florida. Daycare Burglars Busted In Austin
